Dumbarton Castle in Loch Lomond
Dumbarton Castle has a longer history than any other castle in Britain. Over the centuries the castle has acted as a royal residence and a military stronghold. William Wallace was captured by Sir John Monteith who was the Governor of Dumbarton Castle. In 1548 Mary Queen of Scots was taken to Dumbarton Castle for her protection. She stayed there for five months and then sailed for France.
