The Denny Tank in Loch Lomond

Dumbarton's wealth was mainly derived from ship building and associated industries. There is still a museum which hosts the Denny Ship Model Experiment Tank at Castle Street in Dumbarton. The museum is open to the public Monday to Saturday between 10.00 am and 4 pm all year round excluding Christmas and New Year. A visit to the Denny Ship Model Experiment Tank is a unique opportunity to step back into the world of the Victorian.
Built in 1882 the Denny Tank retains many original features including a water tank as long as a football pitch. The tank has been fully restored to working order by the Scottish Maritime Museum and is still used for testing ship designs. While you are at the Denny Tank visit the Cart Head Café for light meals, snacks and drinks. Disabled access is limited. Please phone for details.
