Lennoxtown Accommodation
Lennoxtown, Loch Lomond
Lennoxtown lies in East Dunbartonshire by the Glazert Water in the southern foothills of the Campsie Fells 2.5km north of Glasgow.
Lennoxtown, also known as Newton of Campsie, developed from the late 18th century as a planned village with cotton manufacture, calico printing, coal and limestone mining and manufacture of alum and nails its main industries.
Lennox Castle, built in 1837-41 became a hospital on the 29th March 1927 when the Glasgow Parish Council bought the castle from William George Peareth Kincaid Lennox, along with 1222 acres of the estate for £25,000.
One of the few remaining modern industries in Lennoxtown is the bottling of spring water. Four kilometres west of Lennoxtown is Craigend the birthplace of explorer Sir Thomas Livingstone Mitchell (1792 - 1855).
